How I add acrylic skins to a painting or collage.
Sometimes I like to add acrylic skins to my art for added dimension and texture. Basically an acrylic skin is a thin layer of acrylic paint that has dried and is then peeled off a nonstick surface in a “sheet”. I especially enjoy doing this when I create flowers. They’re not only fun to create, but it allows me to play with composition before I permanently affix it, whereas with paint once you paint it, it’s there and you have to paint over it if you don’t like how it looks. Here’s a short video on how I add them to a work in progress. Check out my Instagram (ahuttoartworks) to see how I created these fun poppies.
